Each moment of our lives is a choice. Each ticking of the clock takes away with it a choice we’ve just made, but while most of them pass without notice, there are some that carve out our path into the future. Those are the ones that matter, the ones that have the possibility to change the name of the game.
In each and every one of these moments we always have two options. The hard way… or the easy way. Both are there all the time. Each time.
So which one will you choose?
We both know that this has never been and it never will be an easy choice to make, but you should ask yourself how far do you want to go. Be honest. Be true to yourself. What do you want to achieve and how much time, energy and hard work are you willing to put in for it? Can you wake up one hour earlier every day, run that extra mile, tell the truth even if it hurts or risk your career to work on that crazy idea of yours? Will you work those extra hours when others sit back, have fun and enjoy the easy way? Can you take the hard way or will you get back to plan B?
I always believed that having a plan B is the easy way out for those times when you don’t feel like doing it anymore, your escape route for the times when things go hard. But if you ever hope to succeed, if you ever hope to change yourself and create a better life for you and those around you, then you know that an escape route is the last thing you need. You need a good challenge instead. You need to take the hard way. So ditch plan B. It only lures you away from what you want to achieve. Do that every time you can and do it often enough until you won’t see the easy way anymore. Because at some point, you will see only one path in life: the hard one. The one that gets you to where you want to be. The one that pushes you to do what matters most in that very moment. The one that shapes you into the person you always wanted to become.
Sometimes though, you’ll be overwhelmed. In those moments, you need to stop, have a drink with friends and contemplate your life from points of view others than your own. But that’s not a problem because it’s in those moments that you realize how far you’ve come and that serves as a powerful motivation to keep on going.
With enough time and effort, you’ll see yourself change. You’ll see the difference between where you started and where you stand now. That will motivate you to continue until you reach your destination, until you fulfill your goals, until you achieve your wildest dreams. And then, after you’ve completed all that, you’ll go beyond them, beyond those initial dreams and goals, you’ll keep going because this choice is not a means to an end but a lifestyle in itself. It’s the only way to change yourself. And changing yourself is the only way of getting where you want to be for real, the only way to achieve something important in life.
So don’t take it easy. Keep on going. Challenge yourself.
And say no to plan B.
